Congrats on taking out the title, Emmi. What’s the secret to being the hottest swimwear model in the land?
I guess the judges just saw that I was having an absolute ball. I flew straight from Italy to Sydney for the comp. I was heaps jet-lagged and didn’t get to sleep for three nights. There’s a tip – don’t sleep.

What made you enter in the first place?
I was having a really bad day and decided to do something I’d never done before. I found a brochure for the competition, so I called up the lady at the Rockingham Hotel [in WA where the heat was being held] and she said, “Sorry, but you’ve called too late. All the spots are already taken.” Then she was like, “Actually, I’ll just fit you in.” So I got my girlfriends together and we went there, got a bit boozy and had a good laugh. I made it through the heat and here I am.

You go out with West Coast Eagles player Chris Masten. How did you hook up?
I met him in high school, but we only started going out just over two years ago. He’s got an awesome sense of humour and keeps me entertained. He reckons the boys will give him heaps about me winning the comp.

Can you give us a woman’s insight into Mad Monday? All year, the girls [players' partners] say to each other, "It'll be fine." But then that day comes and it's hell – you don't see your partner for a week. I know it's all fun and games, and the boys work hard all year, but it's really tough. I wouldn't mind going out for a week and getting hammered with 40 girls.
